What is the The Iris Award?

It s a reading program for all students at the International School of Brussels.  Participation is voluntary

In the elementary school, there are 2 categories:

  • Picture books (20 titles)

  • Fiction Chapter Books (20 titles)

    • Iris Award Chapter Books come in 3 reading levels:

      • Cruising (not too difficult),

      • Flying (Middle)

      • Warp (More challenging)

The program starts the first week of October and ends in May 2019

How can students participate?

There are 3 steps

  1. check out an iris award book from the dedicated shelves in the library

  2. read the book

  3. take an online quiz (chapter books) or (picture books)

Readers become members of the Jury

  • Each student who reads 6 books in a category becomes a member of the jury in that category.

  • The more books you read, the more times you can vote (if you read five books, you vote once, 10 books, twice; 15 books = three votes)

  • In April/May all members of the jury will be invited to a voting party in the library

  • At the voting party all members of the jury will vote on their favorite book

  • The author / illustrator of the book which has the most votes will win the Iris award
